Richard Burton Matheson is an American writer and screenwriter, primarily in the fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres. He is perhaps well known as the writer of What Dreams May Come, Bid Time Return, Duel, The Incredible Shrinking Man, and I Am Legend, all five of which have been adapted as major motion pictures. Matheson has also written for several The Twilight Zone TV show episodes such as Nightmare at 20000, Feet.
